Creative Netwerk recently released Elvin Discovers Chicago Footwork which is the first ever Chicago Footwork children's book! The groundbreaking activity book was written and illustrated by leaders and members of the Chicago Footwork community.
The collaborative mission of this project is to strengthen literacy and the arts through our love for Chicago Footwork culture. ChicagoFootworkDotCom, Jones Corner Store, and Creative Netwerk have contributed to the creation of Elvin Discovers Chicago Footwork as a means to encourage reading and to inspire artists of all ages to engage in the joys of dance, design, writing, and more. We are excited to present this coloring book to serve children and families through formative literacy, arts, and community building experiences.
To amplify the connection of literacy and music, Legendary Chicago producer, DJ T-Rell from Chicago, created original music for the book's album called "The Break Down Vol. 1" highlighting Chicago Footwork and House music.
The album can be downloaded for free or by donation via a QR code placed on the activity page of Elvin Discovers Chicago Footwork called “Homewerk,” inspiring our students to learn foundational Chicago Footwork moves from the dance tutorials, and then utilize DJ T-Rell’s traxx to practice!
DJ T-Rell, created two of tracks on The Break Down Vol. 1 with students from our programs at The Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago, and in direct partnership with Notes For Notes, which is a national nonprofit organization that provides youth with free access to music instruments, instruction and recording studio environments so that music may become a profoundly positive influence in their lives.
